New Films for the Autumn:- (always on the second Monday of each month at 3.30 & 7.30pm)
Monday 10th September Becoming Jane Did Jane Austen have a secret love life? According to this delightful fictional account, she found the inspiration for her much loved novels in a thwarted love affair with a dashing young Irishman. Anne Hathaway plays Jane and James McAvoy is Tom Lefroy. Also starring Maggie Smith and Julie Walters and Hampshire countryside – though filmed in Ireland. Monday 8th October The Painted Veil Sophisticated, spectacular, period relationship drama set in the China of the 20’s. From the novel by Somerset Maugham. Naomi Watts, Edward Norton and Diana Rigg. Both of these films should be considered unmissable. Put them on the calendar now. Monday 12th November As You Like It The new Kenneth Branagh Shakespeare film, with an impressive cast: Brian Blessed, Kevin Kline, Alfred Molina, Romola Garai, Richard Briers. Set in a lush beautiful forest in an imaginary Old Japan, populated by people of all races, this is an innovative and modern version rather than the conventional classic. The filming and cinematography is excellent with many close-ups focusing admirably on strong emotions exchanged between characters and with fluid language spoken in a very modern tone. Monday 10th December The Good German New thriller by Stephen Soderbergh set in immediately post war Berlin and from a cracking novel. Excellent cast: George Clooney, Cate Blanchett and Toby McGuire. This has a wonderful 40’s black and white feel. Just to remind you – tea, coffee and biscuits is all included in the £4.50 ticket price as well as a short supporting film.
